Comprehensive boat insurance helps our customers through rough times and unexpected challenges, but our team at Global Marine Insurance is aware that not everyone has support to weather life’s storms.
Our boat insurance specialists wanted to make a difference in the community, so with all hands on deck, we have launched a community service project for a fantastic initiative in Traverse City, Michigan called Safe Harbor.
The non-profit, Safe Harbor, is an emergency shelter that offers compassionate support for homeless adults. More than 2,000 trained volunteers coordinate with 22 local churches to offer healthy meals, emergency shelter, and supportive companionship. Their mission is to work with community partners to find solutions to end homelessness in the Grand Traverse region.
Our boat insurance specialists wanted to help Safe Harbor provide these critical services to the most vulnerable in our region because the need is great, and it is growing. Safe Harbor has seen an 85% increase in demand for overnight shelter in the last five years. Volunteers estimate that nearly 100 people are homeless in Traverse City, and many are struggling not only with poverty but also with mental health and addiction challenges.
Global Marine Insurance staff members held a soup, salad, and dessert luncheon in our building to raise funds. We used the almost $600 raised to purchase new clothing such as hats, gloves, socks, and coats for guests at Safe Harbor’s shelter.
We were truly overwhelmed by the support and generosity that everyone at the Center Pointe Building gave to this community service project. The act of giving without the expectation of something in return is the definition of kindness.
If you would like to help northern Michigan residents weather life’s storms, please visit Safe Harbor online to learn more about their exceptional work.
